Fishing Tackle Sales to Increase 3% in 2000

According to the recently released National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA) annual study of the sporting goods market, fishing tackle retail sales (in dollars) are projected to increase by 3% over 1999 sales.

Meanwhile, the boating market is expected to grow by 4% over 1999 returns. The overall retail sporting goods market likewise is expected to experience a 4% gain in dollar sales over 1999 figures.

Last year, NSGA came close by projecting flat retail sales for fishing tackle. The actual 1999 tally indicated a 1% decrease in sales versus 1998 retail numbers.

The NSGA report of projected consumer purchases is based on a survey of 100,000 households as well as related industry numbers. In addition to fishing and boating, 62 other categories of sporting goods are covered. A full copy of the report may be obtained for $250 by calling NSGA at (847) 296-6742. ...//
